I am an artist, writer and designer with skills in both digital and traditional mediums.
Biography
Raised in a vibrant immigrant community, Sylvia was naturally drawn to the arts as a child. She credits grade-school art clubs and local art classes for nurturing her interests. Her high school offered art specialization where she focused on painting and ceramics. She graduated Bealart with exhibition experience, purchases of her work from a local gallery, and a portfolio which provided her with advanced standing in college.
In 1998 she earned her Fine Arts Diploma at Georgian College before moving to the woods in northern Ontario. She was the founding Coordinator of the West Nipissing Community Art Gallery, and helped organize exhibitions uniting local Indigenous, Francophone & Anglophone artists. Back in southern Ontario she facilitated arts programs for youth at the Participate Community Arts Centre, along with after-school art clubs and coffee-house evenings.
She continued to be involved in community art exhibitions and accepted private commissions while developing her own voice. Sylvia completed additional courses including Artist-Educator Foundations through the Royal Conservatory, and Therapeutic Benefits of Art & Play at Fanshawe College. She eventually decided to embrace digital technology and in 2018 she completed the Diploma program at Fanshawe College for Interactive Media Design.
She is a current member of Forest City Gallery and volunteers in her local community. She brings dedication and vision to her work, as the founder of both Vesela River Arts and Triple Sight Studios.
Artist Statement
For decades my visual art and poetry has explored themes of women, nature and healing. After a transformative period studying media design and enduring the pandemic, I’m reviving my work with more focus on nature’s biodiversity and expression through the elements.
I’m grateful for my design clients and will continue to create meaningful and effective solutions, with a handful of carefully selected projects each year.
Along with my artistic work, I’m an urban gardener and lover of music.
My homebase is London Ontario, Canada.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to live and work here, and respect the longstanding relationships that Indigenous Nations have to this land as the original caretakers.
I acknowledge the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak, and Attawandaron peoples. This territory is connected with the London Township Treaty and the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement.
